An Artists’ Bungalow with Income Included
April 22, 2010 by Rebecca
Whenever I see apartment courtyards in LA, I can’t help but think of the scene in David Lynch’s Mulholand Drive where the aspiring actress encounters her aunt’s crazy overly made-up landlady in her apartment’s courtyard. There’s such a mystique around LA, thanks to movies like that. The good weather, the promises of a brush with fame, the reclusive artists. I don’t enjoy much about LA, but that aesthetic gets me every time.
The point of this digression is to say, I dig this Silver Lake artists’ bungalow, which has three distinct living spaces adjacent to a courtyard. I could totally see myself being an eccentric writer with a penchant for whiskey hassling my artist-tenants for rent in this place.
Here’s the rundown: Compound consists of one house, plus a detached duplex. Each unit has 1 bdrm/1bath. Hardwood floors, wood details, fireplace, private patios, gated entrance, backyard, and garage. Price: $995,000
Looks like one unit brings in $1,575, and the other brings in $599 in rent. It’s unclear why there’s such a discrepancy in rent, but it’s likely that one level of the duplex is considerably smaller than the other. Unless there’s a way to increase rent (I’m not familiar with tenants’ rights in LA), the asking price seems to be hefty for what would effectively be a 1 bedroom bungalow for the owner.
But at least my eccentric artist fantasy life now has a home. [Via Take Sunset; view on Redfin]
